2018-2019 Alta Gas Ski at School Recipients

Cross Country Ski de fond Canada is thrilled to present the 2019 Ski-at-School program Powered by AltaGas Grant Recipients! This is the fourth year of the AltaGas Ski-at-School grant, available to clubs and schools across Canada. Thank you for everyone’s growing interest from coast to coast!
In the final selection CCC and AltaGas chose 6 applicants; 3 schools and 3 clubs. CCC is excited to announce the recipients of the 2018-19 AltaGas ski-at-School grant:
Foothills Nordic Ski Club, AB: With an established successful program, now in its 10th year running, Foothills Nordic was the first recipient of the first ever AltaGas grant, and are the leaders and trailblazers of the program. This year they plan to provide lessons at different schools in Calgary and teach skiing to 1000 students.
Buck Mountain Central School, AB: Buck Mountain Central School will make cross-country skiing a pillar of their Physical and Outdoor Education programing. They will support the delivery of extracurricular recreation, active living and sport opportunities. Funds will be used to purchase equipment, as a way to promote active living in the West Central Alberta.
Kimberley Nordic, BC: Last year Kimberley Nordic had a successful ski school program for grade 4 students and are expanding their programing to target 220 children.
École Primaire la Chanterelle de Valcourt, QC: Last year the Club de Ski de fond Jeunesse a Valcourt was created to support the growing demand for cross country skiing in the school and community. Looking to expand their program into physical education classes, offer a low cost ski program to the students and extend their programing to neighbouring municipalities.
Grow Distributed Learning School, BC: Following the aftermath of the 2017 wildfires, the GROW Homeschool Program decided they would engage in community rebuilding with emphasis on sport. They will build capacity by assisting the Williams Lake Cross Country Ski Club in recovering from fire damage to the facility. As well, they will encourage affordable access to outdoor physical activity for all youth in the Cariboo Chilcotin area, and expand participation by partnering with community organizations.
Caledonia Nordic Ski Club, BC: Caledonia Nordic has an established ski school program for over 10 years. They are developing a mobile program unit to reach out to those schools that struggle to visit their club due to financial constraints.
