Alberta Sport Connection recognizes our best amateur athletes, teams, coaches, officials & volunteers

    Edmonton - Alberta Sport Connection (ASC) has announced their 2016 Athlete and Team of the Year Awards and 2017 Alberta Sport Recognition Awards for coach developers, coaches, officials and volunteers.

    *The Alberta Sport Awards were presented on April 29th, 2017 during the 2017 Alberta Sport Connection Leadership Award Conference*

    “These individuals and teams are Alberta’s best. We’re proud of what they’ve achieved and honoured to recognize them for their outstanding contribution to sport in our province,” said Andrew Ference, Chair of Alberta Sport Connection. “They have reached higher, dug deeper, led by example, and made our sport system better.”

    The Athlete and Team of the Year Awards recognize and celebrate significant achievements, performances and contributions of Alberta’s amateur athletes. Award winners are outstanding role models who inspire other Albertans to higher achievements at the recreational or competitive level.

    Blair Dunbar – cross-country skiing
    Blair’s 46 years of involvement in cross-country skiing began whilst living in Inuvik and continued as he moved to Fort Smith, Yellowknife, and Canmore. Blair has been involved in organizing and officiating in club races, Western Canadian Championships, Arctic Winter Games, World Cup races, provincial, and national championships. He has achieved Level 4 FIS Certification and in 2013 became the Chief of Competition for the Paranordic World Cup.

    The Coaching Development award acknowledges the tremendous impact the National Coach Certification Program Multi-sport and Sport Learning Facilitators and Evaluators have on our sport delivery system. The Awards recognize significant achievement in developing Alberta’s coaches.

    Coaching Recognition Awards recognize coaches for their outstanding achievements in developing Alberta’s amateur athletes.

    Officiating Awards recognize outstanding achievements in officiating.

    Volunteer Awards recognize the significant contributions of individuals devoting their time and effort to the development of sport.

    The Awards will be presented at the Alberta Sport Recognition Awards Banquet on April 28, 2017, at the 2017 Alberta Sport Leadership Conference in Banff.
