Great show to come at FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2013

    April 30, 2012

Organizing Committee Fiemme 2013 never stops. Over 9 months to the Nordic Ski Worlds, and the Italian team does not waste any time. The main venues in Lago di Tesero (XC Stadium) and Predazzo (Ski Jumping Arena) are practically finished, they only need some freshening up, but nothing too serious, as they were both in service during the Pre-World Championships in the first months of this year. Cavalese congress center is currently under refurbishment until the end of the summer, and it will host the Fiemme 2013 main press center.

Last week the Fiemme 2013 management board met all the main sponsors that will be supporting the world event, namely Viessmann, Vattenfall, Intersport, Coop, Bet-at-home, Hyundai and Trentino.

Eurovision broadcasters (ZDF, ARD, NRK, ORF, SVT, YLE, RTV and SRG, among others) along with Italy’s RAI Sport team gathered in Val di Fiemme and the coverage plan for all races was revealed. ‘As the host broadcaster’, RAI coordinator for Fiemme 2013 Maurizio CiarnĂ² said, ‘we will be using all our human resources and means in order to offer the highest product in terms of professionalism and functionality. We’ve been developing the executive project for months and we will be able to respond to any request from the international companies.’

30 Cross-Country Skiing competitions (between February 20th and March 3rd, 2013) will be covered by 35 cameras (fixed, dolly, mobile, snowmobiles etc.), while the ski jumping stadium will be ‘filmed’ by 16 cameras and 21 microphones will be installed to catch any little sound or noise from athletes’ breath to the landing and spectators’ cheering.

RAI’s main goals for the next Nordic World Ski Championships are to cut costs, pollution and working times and thanks to the ‘technological’ partnership with Trentino Network company these are something by all means reachable. All broadcasting areas in Lago di Tesero and Predazzo, plus Cavalese main square where the prize giving ceremonies will take place, and the opening ceremony venue in the city of Trento, are all provided with fiber-optic network connections.

RAI and Val di Fiemme aim to reach over 500 million spectators across the globe, which is the figure of the 2003 Nordic Ski Worlds held in Val di Fiemme.

During the 2013 Worlds, several side events such as the South Nordic Festival, the Winterfest, Fiemme Arena and the Green Night will be entertaining everybody in Val di Fiemme, and Cavalese will be awarding the champions every night with a spectacular event.

Every six month, the International Ski Federation (FIS) has been visiting Val di Fiemme to check the work done. FIS crew led by FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis met LOC Fiemme 2013 chaired by Pietro De Godenz and couldn’t but congratulate once again on the work done so far and the successful results of the pre-worlds. A slide show of almost 250 photos clearly illustrated the situation and all the events (Tour de Ski finals, Nordic Combined World Cup and both Men and Women Ski Jumping World Cups) received several compliments. The Italian OC claimed that the 19.441.000 Euro budget will be surely respected and they also want to have earnings to reinvest in future sport activities and projects (as it happened in 2003).

Over 1100 volunteers from Val di Fiemme have already registered for the World event and 100 more are on the waiting list, plus some further requests coming from outside the valley and from abroad, that the OC will be evaluating soon.

In 2003, the Nordic World Ski Championships held in Val di Fiemme were the first sport event in the world to receive the UNI EN ISO 14001 certification, and the 2013 World Championships will definitely improve this environmental side.

At last week’s meeting, the Nordic Ski World Championships opening ceremony was debated as well. It will take place in Trento and it is being designed by the team that worked at the 2006 Olympics and the Cycling World Championships held in Italy. The 2013 Nordic Ski World Championships anthem will be written by internationally acclaimed musician and composer Goran Bregovic.

At the end of the busy morning, the organizers put the General Secretary Sarah Lewis and other people to the test with the new videogame “Skiri mini game”. After the funny break, Sarah Lewis closed the meeting with compliments to the Fiemme 2013 group for the excellent work done, not only concerning the sport events but also the sustainability of the project and the side events. The appointment is in six months with the next FIS inspection.
