National Ski Team Background:
Alex Harvey is already one of Canada’s most accomplished skiers. A two-time Olympian, Alex is coming off the season of his life where he finished third in the overall World Cup standings in 2013-14. In just his third year on the National Ski Team, Alex teamed up with Devon Kershaw to win Canada’s first-ever men’s medal at the World Championships when they captured the gold in the team sprint at the mecca of cross-country skiing in Oslo, Norway in 2011. He became Canada’s most accomplished cross-country ski athlete at the World Championships in 2013 when he also won the bronze medal in the sprint event. Alex has reached the World Championship podium at all levels of the sport for Canada. Alex also became the first Canadian to win a gold medal at the Under-23 World Championship when he captured the pursuit title in Estonia weeks before making history with Kershaw. One of the most successful junior racers ever produced in the national program, Alex is the only Canadian to have won three medals at the World Junior Championships.

Introduction to Cross-Country Skiing:
Alex has always been on a pair of cross-country skis as far as he can remember. His introduction to the sport can be described as a time when he’d glide and ride. At just three years of age, Alex’s parents would take him out on the trails in his hometown of Mont Sainte-Anne, Quebec where he’d ski for about 15 minutes before heading into the comfort of a baby glider for the remainder of the day. As time wore on, his passion and endurance in the sport grew. Alex spent his leisure time on the trails, and alpine skiing, until he was 12 years old when he took the first critical step towards pursuing his Olympic dream in cross-country skiing when he enrolled in a Jackrabbit ski lesson at the Mont Sainte-Anne Ski Club.

Personal:
The son of legendary cross-country skier, Pierre Harvey, Alex is as determined to achieve excellence in the classroom as he is on the snow. Alex has balanced his academic and athletic lifestyle while enrolled in the ski- études program during high school, and continues to take university courses on a part-time basis during the shoulder seasons. Alex also enjoys spending time with friends, going to movies and listening to music.
