National Ski Team Background:
Maya has been on a steady progression through Canada’s cross-country ski ranks. Maya had a solid junior career where she was part of the National Junior Team for four years running. She represented Canada at the 2012 Youth Olympic Games, along with two World Junior Championship Teams. Thanks to a solid performance at the inaugural Ski Tour Canada in 2016 where she captured her first career top-30 finish against the best in the world, the Alberta earned a spot on the Senior National Team in 2017 and has not looked back. With eyes now focused on making the 2022 Olympic Winter Games squad, Maya is very excited to be a part of a new generation of Canadian women introducing themselves to the world.

Introduction to Cross-Country Skiing:
Growing up on a family farm just outside of Athabasca, Alta., Maya’s parents enrolled her in skiing when she was four where she started with the Jackrabbits program at the Athabasca Nordic Ski Club.Inspired by her national team idols – Beckie Scott and Sara Renner – Maya continued to chase her Olympic dream. He joined the Rocky Mountain Racers club in Canmore, Alta. when she was 13. It was there she started working her coach, John Jaques. During her high school years, Maya would drive to Canmore regularly to attend training camps and to compete in races. After completing high school in 2013, she moved to Canmore to pursue her goals of high-performance skiing full-time.

Personal:
Maya is the oldest of three siblings in a very active and close family. A healthy lifestyle is important to the MacIsaac-Jones family – and that mindset starts with the parents. Her mom and dad, who Maya trained with regularly during her youth, were very involved in racing and training. Maya’s brother trains alongside her at the Alberta World Cup Academy in Canmore. Her sister is also pursuing a career in skiing while attending high school in AthabascaIn addition to cross-country skiing, Maya enjoys school and is currently attending Athabasca University on a part-time basis where she is aiming to finish her undergrad while skiing. She earns a few extra dollars working at the Paintbox Lodge in Canmore. She is a reading buff – especially Harry Potter. She loves spending times outdoors where she loves camping in the summer during her weeks off from training.
