National Ski Team Background:
From a young age Dahria thrived on competition. Ever since winning gold at her first National Championships when she was 14, Dahria has committed to becoming the best racer possible. Now one of the top women’s racers in the country, Dahria is quickly progressing to a highly competitive level internationally. Coming off representing Canada at her first Olympic Winter Games in 2018, Dahria is entering her fifth season as a member of the Senior National Team. Dahria celebrated a breakthrough performance in 2016 where she sprinted to a 15th-place finish against the world’s best during the Ski Tour Canada at the Canmore Nordic Centre. After this breakthrough race she ended her season by winning two gold medals at home during the 2016 Haywood Ski Nationals in Whitehorse which also secured her both the overall and sprint titles on the 2015/2016 Haywood NorAm circuit. Dahria was originally named to the team in the spring of 2014 following a season of excellent junior results. She first introduced herself to the nation four years ago with her first NorAm win. She ended her winter no differently by winning her first senior national title and finishing second overall at the Haywood Ski National Championships. The rest of the season was spent racing overseas in Europe and Asia. Her best international result of the year came in Kazakhstan at the U23 World Championships where she was 20th in the classic sprint.
Cross-Country Skiing Background:
Until she was six, Dahria could be found striding around the Mt. McIntyre ski trails in Whitehorse with no poles in her purple snowsuit. Progressing like most kids through the jackrabbits program, Dahria joined the Yukon Ski Team development program when she was eight. Competing at the 2004 Arctic Winter Games at age nine was her first glimpse at competitive ski racing, something she fell in love with from the first race. Dahria was a top junior for many years, attending the World Junior Championships three times. Her top performance was a 15th place finish in Val di Fiemme, Italy during 2013-2014 season. The ability to immediately perform at the top of the senior women’s field shows there is potential for something very special. But Dahria will be the first to tell you that hard work is what will get her on to the World Cup podium and is the reason she achieved her Olympic dream in 2018, not potential. Since moving to Canmore in 2012 Dahria has been training with the Alberta World Cup Academy with guidance from the National Team.
Personal:
Even the coldest days of the winter bring the biggest smiles to her face. Dahria was born and raised in Whitehorse – the capital of the Yukon Territory. The Yukon is a special place, and Dahria’s childhood was mostly spent exploring the beautiful mountains and forests. Between soccer, orienteering, figure skating, basketball, volleyball and skiing she always had something on the go. With a great group of friends with her on the Yukon Ski Team, excellent coaching and lots of wintery fun, it was no surprise that she excelled in the sport. Dahria loves skiing because it gives her endless opportunities to spend time outside exploring and travelling to new places. She also enjoys hiking, having a good time outside with her friends and family in the Yukon, in Canmore and around the world. She is a student, working on a Commerce degree by correspondence through Athabasca University. When not skiing or studying, Dahria also likes to explore her creative side by painting mountain landscapes and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.
