NEW! Maintenance of certification policy

    February 11, 2014

The requirement for all certified coaches to maintain their “certified” status through the accumulation of Professional Development (PD) points and self reporting of active coaching status has officially started for all sports on January 1, 2014. The renewal of certification period for cross country ski coaches will be five years, i.e. coaches will need to accumulate a certain amount of PD points (varying based on the NCCP context for which the coach is certified) over the five year period following the achievement of their certification status in a given context (the five year period starting January 1st following the date of certification). This new policy and related requirements do NOT apply for maintaining “Trained” status in any context or gradation.

Maintenance of certification, through proof of ongoing learning (Professional Development) and active coaching is viewed as essential to:

    a)    Ensuring coaches stay current with new coaching practices and knowledge

    b)    Maintaining the integrity of the NCCP.

    c)    Consistency with the standards of other professions.

    d)    Reinforcing the values of lifelong learning and continuous improvement.

    CCC
and the CAC will maintain a PD Registry that includes all events that are eligible for PD credit including:

    a)    Multi-sport and sport-specific core NCCP events.

    b)    Multi-sport and sport-specific NCCP events specifically designed as PD.

    c)    Non-NCCP activities hosted and organized by NCCP partners.

For more detailed information on the Maintenance of certification policy, please consult the policy on CCC’s website (2.4.7 Maintenance of certification policy). You can also consult the multi-sport FAQs on the CAC’s website: http://coach.ca/maintenance-of-certification-s16745&language=en

Please address any questions relating to Non-NCCP PD opportunities in your division to your divisional coaching development coordinator.
