Highlands Trailblazers Para-Nordic ski program hosted a very successful Para-Nordic “Try It On Day” on Saturday March 8th. Nine participants ranging in age from 7 to 59 came out on a sunny and mild day to try Para-Nordic skiing for the first time.

The Highlands Nordic facility in Duntroon, Ontario had great snow conditions for the enthusiastic group of first time skiers to get out and try sitting or standing Para skiing.

Said one pleased mother” My son wants to ski again and we definitely will! This is a great new sport to incorporate into his program. Now I'm sad winter is ending !”

The day coincided with the first day of competition at the Paralympics and the group was excited about Mark Arendz skiing to a silver biathlon medal!

Highlands Ski Patrol members were on hand to learn about Para-Nordic skiing and to assist the three Para-Nordic coaches with the group. The Ski Patrollers are keen to do it again and found helping the Para-Nordic skiers a rewarding experience.

The day was made possible with the support of Cross Country Canada and Cross Country Ontario.
