    • Soldier On at Highlands Nordic

      March 4, 2014

Members of the Canadian Forces Soldier On program attended a two day cross country skiing camp at Highlands Nordic in Duntroon, Ontario on February 26th and 27th, 2014. The soldiers and airmen came from bases across Ontario to brave the frigid temperatures and learn nordic skiing.

The camp was lead by Highlands Trailblazers Para-Nordic coach Gary Fohr and Mono Nordic Para-Nordic coach Ken Norris with the assistance of Highlands Trailblazer Para-Nordic athlete Jason Naval.

Awareness of the importance that sport can play in helping to rehabilitate injured servicemen and service women has grown over the years. The ‘Soldier On’ program was founded in 2007 as a joint initiative of the Canadian Paralympic Committee and the Department of National Defence that aims to use sport to improve the quality of life of current and former Canadian Forces personnel who have suffered major injuries.

The camp was made possible with the support of Cross country Ontario http://www.xco.org/ and Cross Country Canada.
