    • National Development Para-Nordic training camp a success!

      November 26, 2014

The annual National Para-Nordic Development camp was a great success! Joining us we had 23 athletes, 2 guides, 5 support person and 10 coaches from Newfoundland and Labrador, Qu├ębec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. The camp started with a travel day to Canmore Thursday November 20 and departures Sunday November 23rd. The focus was on technical aspects of classic and skate skiing, a session with the National Team Sport Psychologist John Coleman, an information session about the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, BC, a biathlon try-it opportunity coached by none other than Kaspar Wirz (National team coach), Mark Arendz (PNST) and Menno Arendz. The camp allows coaches, guides and athletes to work directly with Robin McKeever and fortunately athletes also had the opportunity to work with Mark Arendz and Graham Nishikawa from the PNST. The final day the athletes had the chance to do their first time trail of the season on the man-made snow of the Canmore Nordic Centre. We certainly think some athletes have the potential to develop as future National team athletes.

In conjunction with the camp there was a Community Coaching- Athletes with a disability module offered Nov 21-22. We now have an additional 11 CC AWAD coaches certified!

A special thanks to the coaches but also Tony Chin for assisting in organizing the camp with the CCC staff. If you would like more information about Para-Nordic skiing please link here http://www.cccski.com/Para-Nordic.aspx or contact Nadia Smith at nsmith@cccski.com .
