    • Cross Country Ontario Hosts Successful Para-Nordic Camp

      April 22, 2016

A mere week after the Nationals in Whitehorse, YT and the final IPC world cup race in Finland were done, Cross Country Ontario hosted a very successful (and one of their biggest) para-Nordic camps for new and experienced skiers, as well as a CC-AWAD coaching course for coaches from across the country.  In total 15 athletes and 10 coaches attended the weekend.

From equipment education and fitting, roller skiing and biathlon to skiing on a fresh 10 cm of snow, athletes and coaches had a jam packed, educational and fun weekend.  “Following on the success of the Canadian Paralympics’ Athlete Search Event in Calgary last October, we knew the importance of hosting a camp such as this in Ontario” said new CCC Para Nordic Development coach Kate Boyd.  The CPC hosted a similar talent search in Toronto at the end of February so the timing of the Ontario camp was excellent and saw 6 athletes from the event attend the camp with aspirations of becoming Paralympians.  Joining Boyd was, CCC Para Nordic World Cup Biathlon coach Kaspar Wirz who shared his knowledge with athletes and coaches about sit ski fitting and para-biathlon.  Both Boyd and Wirz noted there could be some exciting talent coming out of Ontario in the next few years.
