Haywood RACE Report: Dahria Beatty 49th, Alex Harvey 50th in Tour de Ski Stage 1

    Temperatures were just below zero as the 1st stage of the Tour de Ski got underway in Toblach, with skate sprint qualifying.

    Sadie Bjornsen of the US, led the way on the women's side, with Dahria Beatty 49th and Emily Nishikawa 61st.

    For the men Johannes Klaebo of Norway had the fastest time, with the Canadians coming up short in heat qualifying. Alex Harvey was 50th, Lenny Valjas 55th and Bob Thompson 62nd.

    In the final Sweden's Stina Nilsson was the winner, with her teammate Ida Ingemarsdotter 3 seconds back, followed closely by Jessie Diggins of the US in 3rd. Sadie Bjornsen was 6th, as 2 US skiers and 3 Swedes made the final.

    Johannes Klaebo won the men's race, ahead of Richard Jouve and Lucas Chanavat of France.

    In an interview with Sportcom.qc.ca Alex mentioned while he was a bit disappointed with today's result, many of the other main Tour contenders also missed the heats, and he was looking forward to Sunday's 15k, where he finished 4th last year.

    10 and 15k distance races are scheduled for tomorrow's 2nd stage, also in Toblach.
