      1) Dec. 9,10 World Cup, Davos, Switzerland

The World Cup circuit has now moved to Central Europe for the next month, with races in the traditional site of Davos taking place this weekend. The events will be skate sprints on Saturday, followed up by short distance, skate interval races on Sunday.

Devon and Alex will look to continue their strong starts to the season, and the rest of the team will aim to make further progress up the rankings, with their main focus being the Olympics in February. Olympic qualifying is still on the line, with results better than top 30 counting only 4 skiers per nation.

Lenny Valjas has returned to Canada to rehab from some minor neck issues that have been hampering his performances.

It will be interesting to see how performances of the Russian team pan out over the weekend, after the IOC excluded any official Russian participation in the upcoming Olympics. More Info This is a ground-breaking decision, which is a significant victory for Clean Sport, but will herald the beginning of much paperwork, appeals and twists and turns before PyeongChang. FIS will also be under the spotlight, as antidoping rules call for the suspension of countries that frequently violate anti-doping provisions.

      2) Dec 9, 10 Haywood NorAm/U.S. SuperTour, Sovereign Lake, B.C.

Once again Haywood Securities is back supporting our National Race Series and the events start up on Saturday at Sovereign Lake Nordic, near Vernon, B.C.  The event will host over 450 skiers, as it also serves as the 2nd stop on the U.S. SuperTour, the national series of "down south". This excellent north-south cooperation will be repeated in late January, when the SuperTour will take place in Craftsbury and then have an official stop at the Haywood Easterns, the next weekend at Nakkertok Nordic. A great step forward for the development of the sport in North America.

Saturday's racing features classic sprints, with interval start, skate races scheduled for Sunday. With many top U.S. racers in attendance, Canadians will be looking to ensure the events aren't a repeat of last year, where U.S. skiers dominated the top of the results list.
