The relays, the final races at the World Junior/U23 Championships, got underway with chilly temperatures, -15 deg. C.

Canada's womens 4 X 3.3k relay team was made up of Hannah Mehain, Natalie Hynes, Annika Richardson and Alexandra Racine.

Germany skied to a come-from-behind win over Russia and Canada finished 15th, after skiing around 11th in the first 1/2 of the race.

      The men's race was 4 X 5 kilometres.

Sweden started with a quick and significant lead on the first lap. Antoine Cyr led off for Canada, and was skiing in the top group for most of the leg. Over the last kilometre he couldn't maintain the pace, fading to 9th, 51 seconds from the lead at the exchange.

On the second lap there was some movement in positions and Graham Ritchie came through the lap lane in 10th, skiing with the Swiss team. Félix Longpré brought Canada back to 9th at the end of his leg, skiing with the Czech and Swiss teams.

It was a close battle over the final lap, but the Swiss built up a lead in the final stages and the Czech's stayed ahead of Étienne Hébert at the line. Canada finished 11th, an improvement over 12th place last year in Park City and not far off the 9th place finishes that have been the best placings for Canada in recent years.

Norway won, and the U.S. men grabbed a historic silver medal.
