    Mont-Sainte-Anne to host Canada’s top

    cross-country ski hopefuls January 6 to 9, 2018

Over 400 athletes to compete in selection events for

World Junior/U23 Championships and Olympic Games

Mont Sainte-Anne, November 23, 2017 – Mont-Sainte-Anne is set to host an event in the Haywood NorAm Series from January 6 to 9, 2018, which will serve as a selection for the remaining spots on the team that will represent Canada at the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang. These races will also be used to select the members of the Canadian team that will compete at the World Junior/U23 Championships in Goms, Switzerland, to be held January 28 to February 3.

With the high stakes on the line for the athletes, this is sure to be the most important race series of the season in Canada. The program, spread over four days, will also include Quebec Cup and Ontario Cup races. More than 400 athletes are expected to take to the trails at the Mont-Sainte-Anne Cross-country Ski Centre.

    World-class courses

"Mont-Sainte-Anne is my home, and it’s also my favorite place to train. This summer I had the opportunity to see the new sprint and skiathlon courses. They’re fantastic, and I’m sure the competitions will be spectacular," said Alex Harvey, who recently left for Europe and will race in the first World Cup of the season this week-end.

    Major investment in summer 2017

The hosting of these competitions was made possible thanks to an investment of nearly $200,000 at the Mont-Sainte-Anne Cross-Country Ski Centre in the summer of 2017 as part of a partnership with the Quebec City region’s ski clubs, the Côte-de-Beaupré Regional County Municipality, Mont-Sainte-Anne Ski Resort, Secrétariat de la Capitale-Nationale, and private donors and local businesses.

"I am delighted that the stakeholders in our community have all come together to upgrade the race site, which is among the best in Canada," noted Parise Cormier, mayor of Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges, where the Mont-Sainte-Anne Cross-country Ski Centre is located. "We are thrilled to once again welcome athletes from all across Canada to this competition venue that has hosted several international competitions in the past."

"Cross-country skiing at Mont-Sainte-Anne is an important part of winter tourism in the Côte-de-Beaupré area, and of our regional economic development. We are proud to be part of this event, which is a direct spin-off of the project our organization has contributed to in a very significant way," said Développement Côte-de-Beaupré president Daniel Robitaille.
