    • Lappe Nordic Prepares for World Jr and U23 Championship Trials

      December 21, 2012

Members of the competition Jury met via conference call on Friday to review current plans for the Jr/U23 Trials and received positive feedback as racing conditions at Lappe Nordic have been reported as good after the Fresh Air Time Trials on Wednesday, December 19.  .  Although snow conditions in Thunder Bay are unseasonably low, precipitation that fell as rain over the weekend at the airport was snow out at Lappe.

“We have work parties planned for the weekend to reinforce the snow cover on our race trails and are confident that conditions will be good for the Trials,” commented Werner Schwar, the Event Chair for the Trials.   “We feel challenging courses in both techniques can be developed for the skiers.  Some twigs are still showing through on parts of the trail but we haven’t groomed with the big machine so there are very few rocks on the course,” continued the Event Chair.

In addition to the course maintenance work being planned at Lappe the current weather forecast indicates cold weather with the chance of more snow.  The Lappe stadium web cam can be viewed at  http://lappenordic.ca/webcam.html .  Updates will be provided later next week.
