      Thompson and Beatty win Buff Sprints and BC Takes a Commanding Lead
      at the Haywood NorAm Westerns


      Prince George, BC
      – After two days of racing B.C. still has a commanding lead in the aggregate with 5385 points at the Haywood NorAm Western Canadian Championship. Alberta is in second with 3267 and Yukon in third with 262.

      In the Open Men’s category qualification round leaders over the 1.4 km course were Simon Lapointe in a time of 3:04:90, Bob Thompson (3:07:32) and Jesse Cockney (3:07:81). In the Sprint Finals (Heats) Thompson(Ontario) won the gold ahead of Patrick Stewart-Jones(Quebec) in second and Andy Shields (Ontario) in third. Gareth Williams (BC), who placed second in the qualification round, finished ahead of Alexander McDonald (BC) and Larkin Wasmuth (Saskatchewan) in the Junior Men’s 1.4 km Sprint.Dahria Beatty (Yukon) won her second gold medal by placing first in the Sprint Finals.  Olivia Bouffard-Nesbitt (Quebec), who had the fastest time (3:38:96) in the qualification round, placed second and Maya Macisaac-Jones (Alberta) placed third.  The Junior Women 1.4km Sprint was won by Ingvild Hoymork.  Emily McIlroy and Morgan Rogers placed second and third respectively.

      Rachel May from Salmon Arm led two Hollyburn (North Vancouver) skiers in the Junior Girls .8km Sprint.  Anna Goodwin and Jenna Sim placed second and third, respectively.  Caledonia skier Kaia Andal finished in 9th place. The Revelstoke Juvenile girls had another strong showing by taking the top two positions in the .8km Sprint.  Alana Brittin and Elizabeth Elliott took gold and silver, respectively.  Julia Brown from Salmon Arms made it a BC podium sweep.

      Reed and Ty Godfrey from Canmore took gold and bronze in the .8km Junior Boys Sprint.  Andrew Nash from Salmon Arm took second spot.  Remi Drolet from Rossland took his second consecutive gold medal beating the field in the Juvenile Boys .8km Sprint. BC skiers swept the Juvenile boys podium with Konrad Van Varseveld from Salmon Arm and Ross Lamon from Courtenay placing second and third.

      In the Teck Northern Cup .5km prologue races Isla Cadell (Atoms Girls), David Hillhouse (Atom boys), Iona Cadell (PeeWee Girls), and Ian Van Bergeyk (PeeWee boys) all placed first.  In the 1.1km prologue Teslyn Bates (Bantam Girls) Kaden Kwiatkowski (Bantam Boys), Marielle Ackermann (Midget Girls) and Trond May (Midget Boys) won their categories.

      The start time for Sunday’s races is 9:00AM for the Open Categories.

      The public are invited to attend this significant event to see Canada’s World Cup and future Olympic competitors. No admittance charge.
